Loek Hermans (born in Heerlen, Holland 1951) is since 12 June 2007 member of the Dutch Senate for the Liberal Part VVD. He is also Chairman of the MKB Nederland. Loek Hermans was previously member of the House of Representatives (1977-1990); he was Lord Mayor of Zwolle (1990-1994), the Queen’s Commissioner of Friesland (1994-1998) and Minister of Education, Culture and Science (1998-2002).
Loek Hermans is now Chairman of the Commission for Internal Affairs, State Councils and General Affairs and concentrates amongst other things on finance, education and agriculture. Besides these duties he is also Member of the Board of Football Club SC Heereveen, Member of the Heeren Zeventien (Seventeen Gentlemen) and Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of ANNO, the promotions Bureau for Dutch Historical Records. Loek Hermans resides in Beetsterzwaag in Friesland.
